Luke 24 · The road to Emmaus
Do not read about the road.
Walk it.
Seven miles from Jerusalem to a village called Emmaus. Two travelers, heartbroken, certain the story was over. This page is that road. Your scroll is your stride.
Walk, and watch the evening come.
Mile one
They walked with their eyes down.
Everything they had hoped for had died on a cross two days before. They talked it over and over, the way we all do when we cannot make sense of our lives.
"We had hoped that he was the one..."Luke 24:21
Mile two · the light turns gold
A Stranger fell into step beside them.
They did not recognize him. He asked what they were discussing, and then he listened. He did not begin with answers. He began with their story.
Look down at the road. There is a second set of footprints now. There always was.
"Jesus himself drew near and went with them."Luke 24:15
Mile four
And beginning with Moses, he opened the Scriptures.
Mile after mile, the Stranger walked them through the whole story, the law, the prophets, the psalms, and showed them it had all been pointing to one person the entire time.
Not a lecture. A walk. Truth at the pace of footsteps.
Mile six · dusk
"Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road?"
They said it afterward, once they understood. Something had been kindling in them the whole way, and they could not name it yet.
Luke 24:32
Emmaus · evening
"Stay with us, for it is toward evening."
They begged the Stranger to stay. At the table he took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened.
They recognized him in the breaking of the bread.

Daily Reflection
A short word to carry into the day, ending in one act of love.
I am not God. I am not the Holy Spirit. I am not your pastor. I am a companion to help you walk with Jesus, and I will always point you back to him, to Scripture, to real people, and to a local church.
Every conversation ends with a mission, not a scroll.
